| To truly appreciate the quality of a product, it can be
soothing to reflect on the humble beginnings and dedication to greatness.
CAO was the brain child of Cano (pronounced JOHN-no) Aret Ozgener in the
late 1960's, priding himself in perfecting meerschaum pipes. Graduating
from Columbia in 1964 with a professional engineering degree combined with
his Turkish background and love for cigar pipe smoking, he constantly
re-worked and crafted amazing meerschaum pipes never before seen with such
high quality. With the help of two prominent cigar shop owners in
Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, MD, CAO was born.
For Ozgener, the growth of CAO has been a rewarding struggle. Branching from the creation of the quality pipes, Ozgener began creating quality humidors in the early 1990s. Lining them with Spanish cedar he purchased several dozen nineteenth-century wooden jewelry and writing boxes at an antiques convention then converted them into humidors. These were an immediate success and launched a Nashville-based humidor production effort. This helped fuel CAO's introduction into the cigar market by the mid 1990s as the cigar boom came about. Always using creativity, Ozgener looked to Honduras to manufacture the cigars, where most companies focused on the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua.` From a small time pipe creator, to humidor designer, to now a big time player in the cigar industry, CAO has created a powerful name for themselves. In late 2007, Tim Ozgener, succeeded his father Cano as president of CAO and has carried on his fathers cutting edge touch. Like Cano's dedication to quality and creativity along the journey, consumers can witness for themselves the carefully crafted array of unique cigars and blends offered by CAO.
